4/3/09 - Gabe and the Pnola Bowl-A-Thon

If you've been following our site and/or activities (or if you have psychic powers, or have lived in the Mt. Vernon, IA area, or certain areas of the West Coast, or New Orleans), you know about Gabe. Gabe was a volunteer with our first work trip to New Orleans in 2008, and he stayed behind in New Orleans. Having just graduated from Cornell College, he decided to move to New Orleans and continue the work that we'd been doing that week. He got a position with Pnola through Americorps, and he was one of our crew leaders for our recent trip. He's an excellent guy, and a good friend.

I bring up Gabe here because he is participating in the PNOLA Bowl-A-Thon, a fundraiser for The Phoenix of New Orleans. These are the people we've worked with the past two years, and I can't say enough about the organization. They are wise in the ways of spending: every dollar donated to Pnola yields $10 of savings to the homeowners they are helping.

So it's a bowl-a-thon: we pledge money to Pnola via Gabe, paying X amount for every pin he knockes down. (Personally, knowing Gabe, and wanting to donate a *larger* amount of money, I'm considering donating for every pin he leaves standing instead). You can check out the official Bowl-A-Thon flyer, or you can call Rachel at Pnola directly to pledge: 504-717-4731. Cornellians, I'm looking at you here. Represent!

Can you trust this man with a bowling ball?
